✈Fly Dubai is increasing flights from Dubai to Sarajevo

As of January 23. 2016. Fly Dubai will add one more weekly flight from Dubai to Sarajevo (total of three weekly flights). Fourth weekly flight will be added March 30. 2016.  From June 23. 2016. to September 14. 2016. flights will be operated daily. Fly Dubai started with just two weekly flights and gradually increasing to almost daily last summer season, recording record number of passengers using the flights. Flights are catering to rapidly increasing number of tourist from Gulf countries visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as business travelers. Flights are very popular with Bosnians living in Australia connecting on Emirates flights in Dubai. Huge demand for this flights has prompted Qatar Airways to consider starting its own flights to Sarajevo in summer of 2016. So far, no official announcement has been made by Qatar Airways but it is expected that flights will commence during 2016. Flights to Doha most likely will have a stop in Skopje. Qatar Airways practice with flights to Balkans is to start with two weekly flights with a stop as they did with Zagreb flights going via Budapest, until demand was there to fly direct Doha-Zagreb. Flight to Belgrade still operate via Sofia. Hopefully Qatar Airways will have rights to sell tickets between Skopje and Sarajevo which would be great addition to Sarajevo Airport destination network.

✈Regular charter flights from Tuzla to Vienna to begin Dec. 21.

Tuzla International airport has announced scheduled charter flights from Tuzla to Vienna. Flights will operated by Montenegro Airlines on behalf of the tour operator Mysky on board of  Embraer 195 aircraft, offering 116 seats.Ticket sales have started on Mysky website, price of one way ticket is starting at 20.00 EUR. Flights are scheduled to operate twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays. It is expected that around 20.000 passengers will use direct link between two cities on yearly basis.

✈Czech Airlines is resuming flights from Prague to Sarajevo

Czech Airlines’ plans to renew its operation of the following routes during the up-coming summer season: Venice (daily connection), Bilbao, Billund, Bologna (daily connection), Helsinki,Porto, Växjö and Linköping – destinations launched by Czech Airlines as new additions to the carrier’s network in the 2015 summer season or the 2015/2016 winter season.

Moreover, Czech Airlines plans to launch or renew operation of its regular services to Malta (twice weekly), Keflavík in Iceland (twice weekly), Birmingham (up to 5 times a week), Sarajevo (up to 4 times a week), Skopje (3 times a week), Zagreb (up to 4 times a week),Kaliningrad (4 times a week), Kazan (3 times a week), Ufa (twice weekly), Minsk (4 times a week) and Odessa (3 times a week). Some of the new planned routes will only be operated on a seasonal basis (e.g. Malta and Keflavík), while operation of other destinations will be based on the development in demand. Ticket sales for the above-listed routes will be launched via all Czech Airlines’ distribution channels during October and November.

✈Bosnia and Herzegovina-Sweden half yearly air traffic report

Air traffic between two countries in the year 2015. has continued with double digit growth. In the first six months of the year number of passengers traveled between two countries has reached almost 50.000 passengers. In the second half of the 2015. Wizz air has introduced two weekly flights between Tuzla and Stockholm Skavsta Airport which will contribute to much higher number of passengers in second half of the year.

   

✈Sarajevo International Airport passenger growth continues in October

 

A total of 71.255 passengers used the airport in October, representing an increase of 9,88%. The total number of available seats during the month of October was 90.034 and the average load factor on flights to/from Sarajevo was 79,15 %. Sarajevo International Airport is well on the way to have the best year in history , with 800.000 passengers handled and great increase in cargo operations.

Winter timetable starts 10/25/15 bringing regular flight and capacity reduction during slow winter season. Air carriers with flight reductions during winter are:

• Turkish Airlines (IST) from 18 to 14
• Adria Airways (LJU) from 5 to 4
• Pegasus Airlines (SAW) from 7 to 4
• Austrian Airlines (VIE) from 14 to 12
• Germanwings (CGN) from 3 to 2

The rest of the airlines will remain with the same number of flights.

New routes this winter season comparing to the same time last year are:

• Swiss International Airlines with two weekly flights to Zurich and one weekly flight to Geneva.
• Norwegian Air with one weekly flight to Oslo.
• Germanwings with one weekly flight to Stuttgart.

✈Tuzla International Airport will receive a permit for cargo traffic

Confirmation came today from Denis Zvizdic, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 "There are minor technical suggestions that should be removed, so that the airport in Tuzla, together with airports Sarajevo and Banja Luka, and later Mostar, get green light for cross-border trade," said Zvizdic.

There is great interest in the export of products of animal origin from Tuzla Canton. Turkish Airlines has already expressed interest to establish a cargo flights from Tuzla to Istanbul for meat exports to Turkey, which would greatly improve the economy of this part of the state.

For almost 12 months Tuzla International Airport is working on fulfilling all necessary conditions to obtain permission for cargo flights. For last of couple of months Tuzla International Airport is working with the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on getting permit for cargo flights. Positive decision by the Government is expected soon.

"Given the expansion of the airport and passenger traffic, and Wizz Air opening its base at the airport, which was established in June this year, Tuzla International Airport has increased hours of operations and now we are working with two shifts. Working day starts at 4:30 until 23:30 hours. We have met all the technical requirements, and do not see any technical reason that we do not allow the establishment of air cargo traffic. Everything else, which is necessary for cargo flights, we met. By that I mean the construction of two platforms, one of them for night operations and cargo storage facility with proper temperature regulations for handling perishable goods"said Rifat Karasalihovic director of Tuzla International Airport.

Nick de Borst, a young pilot from the Netherlands who was looking for a job, with help of his father and his friends in Bosnia and Herzegovina came up with the idea to start an air taxi company offering fast and reliable connection between Bosnian cities as well as neighboring countries for business travelers.

In an exclusive interview with Akta.ba Nick de Borst, CEO Chest Airlines says that it is a small company that allows people to fly across the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatian, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and other countries in the region.

"Because of bad roads and high mountains, travel by car, especially for business people is very time consuming. Therefore, we realize that the best and fastest way to travel was in the air. Travelling by car from Tuzla to Sarajevo takes about two hours, while traveling by plane takes less than thirty minutes, "explains de Borst  and how he got the idea to start this business in our country.

✈Croatia Airlines half yearly report for Sarajevo-Zagreb flights

Croatia Airlines handled 29.325 passengers on Zagreb-Sarajevo-Zagreb route during the first half of 2015, an increase of 2,43% or 697 passengers more compared to the same period of the last year. Number of flights increased from 623 in the first half of 2014. to 655 in the first half of 2015. representing an increase of 5,13% or 32 flights more. Average cabin load factor stood at 58,34% or 45 passengers per flight. ✈Sarajevo International Airport passenger growth continues in September

A total of 79.120 passengers used the airport in September, representing an increase of 11,17%. The total number of available seats during the month of September was 101.386 and the average load factor on flights to/from Sarajevo was 78,04 %.

This year Sarajevo International Airport is expected to handle 800.000 passengers, an all time record high for the airport. Sarajevo International Airport should break a record of 1 million passengers handled in one year; in the year 2018. The current terminal building is designed for handling 800.000 passengers per year. This fall the airport is starting with several expansion projects: new taxiways, and expansion of apron is planed to accommodate 3 more aircraft(Airbus 320 or Boeing 737-800). With this expansion the airport will have the capacity to accommodate 10 aircraft at the same time (aircraft type Airbus 320 family, Boeing 737 family or smaller). The airport is planning to extend the terminal building also, adding one more air bridge and separating the Schengen and Non Schengen passengers required by the EU.

✈Sea Air has anounced flights from Mostar to Stuttgart

Sea Air has made yet another schedule change. This time Osijek-Mostar-Osijek flights were reduced from 11 flights per week to 3 flights per week. Flights are scheduled to operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays with Saab 340 belonging to Ukrainian airline Aerojet (BJU). New direct flights from Mostar to Stuttgart will be introduced with one rotation per week on October 26. 2015. Flights will operate on Mondays with a Boeing 737-300 by Maltese airline Maleth Aero (MLT).

Mostar International Airport passenger growth continues in September. Total of 11.502 passengers used the airport, representing an increase of 9,55%. Total number of available seats during month of September was 16.576. Average load factor on flights to/from Mostar was 69,39%. This year Mostar International Airport is expected to handle 80.000 passengers.

The government of Bosnia's entity Serb Republic said it has given the green light for the ground handling agreement between the entity’s owned company Aerodromi Republike Srpske and Serbia's national air carrier Air Serbia to be extended.

The government said in a press release today following its weekly session that it has obliged the entity’s airport operator to finance the costs of airport services and fees for the Belgrade-Banja Luka route, from January 1 until December 31 2016, from subsidies provided for in the budget.

✈Sarajevo Airport expansion goes as planned

Sarajevo International Airport has announced a public tender for the construction of the project rapid exit taxiway D, which will allow planes moving quicker from the runway after landing to the entrance of the platform. By doing so runway will be available for more takeoffs. The value of the investment is 3.9 million Bosnian marks ($2.2 million US).

The main project

The main task is to increase the number of aircraft operations at the airport and that will be achieved by increasing number of taxiways, currently Sarajevo International Airport has three exit taxiways A, B and C and most of the time in rush hours the aircraft have to, either use whole runway depending on weather conditions, and exit on TXWY C on the end of the runway  or turn around and taxi on the runway, which is very time consuming and is not allowing incoming aircraft to land or outbound ones to takeoff. With this project alone, capacity of landings and take offs will increase by 30%, For example, if we have eight possible take-offs and landings per hour now, building this rapid exit taxiway will increase it to 10 per hour.Author of the project is the IPSA Institute Sarajevo.

Record result

Last month Sarajevo International Airport has served 101.307 passengers, which is 14 percent more than the same period last year.

In terms of cargo in August the airport processed 512.683 kilograms of commercial cargo, representing huge increase of 435 percent, more than the same period in 2014. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the entire company, trend of successful business is expected in the future.
