✈Lumiwings to launch Tuzla-Istanbul flights

Lumiwings will introduce two weekly flights between Tuzla and Istanbul. Flights are scheduled to start on March 5^th, operating on Tuesdays and Sundays. Lumiwings established a base at Tuzla Airport in December of last year with flights to Saarbrucken in Germany, Halmstad and Stockholm Skavsta in Sweden, Esbjerg in Denmark, and Maastricht in the Netherlands.

✈ Trip report: Sarajevo (SJJ) – Zagreb (ZAG) – Istanbul (IST)

Travel date: July 20, 2021.

Airline: Croatia Airlines and Turkish Airlines

I was flying yesterday from Sarajevo to Istanbul via Zagreb. My first flight was on Croatia Airlines Dash 8-400 (reg. 9A-CQA), the second one on Turkish Airlines Airbus 321 (reg. TC-JTG). Early morning at  Sarajevo Airport was kind of busy with three flights leaving in one hour time: Wizz Air to Dortmund, Croatia Airlines to Zagreb and Austrian Airlines to Vienna. While I was waiting for my flight, I had a chance to talk to a agent who was working on Dortmund flight, she informed me that Wizz Air flight to Dortmund was almost full with only 5 empty seats. My flight to Zagreb was surprisingly empty!? I took this flight many times in the past and usually this flight was always full of transfer passengers to the USA and Canada. It looks like Turkish Airlines and Austrian Airlines are doing majority of transfer to North America now. Our Zagreb flight OU341 had only 17 passengers, only a small  bottle of water was served, which is okay for such a short flight (it took us 35 minutes from Sarajevo to reach our gate at Zagreb Airport). This was my first time visiting new Zagreb Airport terminal, compared to the old one is huge improvement. I was surprised how empty the whole airport was, barely any passengers! While I was waiting at the gate for my flight to Istanbul, next to us Ryanair was boarding the flight to Milan-Bergamo, I counted 95 passengers boarding that flight. Our flight to Istanbul was on Airbus 321 aircraft (TC-JTG) with 103 passengers.

✈ Trip report: Chicago (ORD) – Istanbul (IST) – Sarajevo (SJJ)

Turkish Airlines Airbus 321neo (delivered June 14. 2021)

I was flying from the USA to Bosnia yesterday, Seattle (SEA) – Chicago (ORD) – Istanbul (IST) – Sarajevo (SJJ). I was surprised on how many people were flying from Chicago to Sarajevo via Istanbul. There were at least 60 passengers from Chicago, connecting on Turkish Airlines flight to Sarajevo. Istanbul new airport is excellent, very specious, and modern. My flight from Istanbul to Sarajevo was on Turkish Airlines brand new Airbus 321neo aircraft (TC-LTH). The flight was completely booked in economy class (162 seats), while business class had eight empty seats out of 20. Photos from the flight

✈Sarajevo International Airport timetable for February 2021

During the month of February Sarajevo Airport will see airlines decreasing its service. Only four airlines with four destinations will serve the airport during the slowest month of the year. With the coronavirus pandemic raging across the world, possibility of the future flight reductions is very possible. During the month of February following airlines will serve Sarajevo Airport:

• Austrian Airlines – Vienna 4x weekly (1-3-5-7)
• Air Serbia – Belgrade 3x weekly (1---5-7
• Flydubai – Dubai 3x weekly  (--3-56-)
• Turkish Airlines – 7x weekly (-234567)

During the month of February  Turkish Airlines will operate seven weekly flights between Istanbul and Sarajevo, offering 8.680 seats in both directions, followed by Flydubai connecting Dubai and Sarajevo with three weekly flights, offering 4.176 seats in both directions. Austrian Airlines will offer four weekly flight between Vienna and Sarajevo, offering 2.432 seats in both directions. Air Serbia will offer three weekly flights between Belgrade and Sarajevo, offering 1.584 seats in both directions. The slowest months of the year when comes to the airline business is extremely affected by the coronavirus pandemic with bare minimum when comes to commercial flights. As of today, Sarajevo Airport will see a total of 136 commercial flights during the month of February, offering a total of 16.872 seats. With the load factor of around 60% during the majority of pandemic, the month of February will see approximately 10.000 passengers.

✈Atlas Global established Istanbul-Sarajevo flights

The Turkish airline Atlas Global has established Istanbul Ataturk-Sarajevo flights. First Atlas Global flight (KK6650 Airbus 320 TC-AGU) from Istanbul Ataturk airport landed at Sarajevo airport today at 10:25. This is the third airline operating flights from Istanbul to Sarajevo after Turkish Airlines and Pegasus.

Atlas Global flights between Istanbul and Sarajevo will operate four times a week - on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sarajevo airport director, Armin Kajmaković said:

 "We are delighted to have Atlas Global arrivals at Sarajevo airport. The airline with a fleet of 26 modern Airbus aircraft is already flying to 50 destinations in 35 countries in Europe and Asia, and is now recognizing Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a promising tourist and business destination. Atlas Global offers another option to Istanbul and Turkey's largest airport Ataturk, which is one of the largest transfer centers in the world. " 

AtlasGlobala director Recep Zeman said:

" With the start of Sarajevo flights, the company continues to expand its network to the west. This year new lines were added to our network in Europe, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia and the CIS region. We have increased the number of destinations to 50. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in each of our markets, we will try to become the preferred airline selected by passengers. We believe that our new established line to Sarajevo has a bright future. "

A ceremony at the airport was attended by numerous guests, including the Turkish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Haldun Koc.

✈ Sarajevo - Istanbul traffic statistics report from 2012 to 2015!

As of the year 2010, Istanbul with its two airports is the most popular destination from Sarajevo International Airport. Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST) is served by Turkish Airlines with 10 weekly flights during winter timetable and 18 weekly flights during summer timetable. In the past BH Airlines operated daily flights to Istanbul Ataturk Airport and this route was most profitable for the airline. Turkish Airlines operated flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) in 2014 from May to October. Flights from this airport were discontinued just after one summer season due to low demand for the flights and mostly due to the fact that Pegasus Airlines offered better pricing and more connections from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW). Pegasus Airlines started flights to Sarajevo on February 28. 2013. with five weekly flight, gradually increasing flights to daily in winter season and to 9 weekly in summer season. Statistic data for 2016 will be available in second half of this year. Number of passengers in 2016 between Sarajevo and two Istanbul airports is approximately around 320.000 passengers.

✈ Tuzla Airport cargo operations in November

Tuzla International Airport has finished another month of successful cargo operation. Turkish Airlines operated total of 13 outbound cargo flights to Istanbul. Approximately 845 tons of cargo was processed. All flights were operated with wide-body Airbus 330 aircraft.

✈ Turkish Cargo flights: success story for Tuzla Airport

Turkish Airlines operated a total of 11 cargo flights from Tuzla International Airport to Istanbul Ataturk Airport during the month of September. At the beginning of the last month, cargo flights from Tuzla Airport, were in jeopardy, due to official announcement from the Bosnia and Herzegovina Office of Veterinary Inspection, about closure of its office at the airport, which would stop export of the meat to Turkey. Since cargo transport, generates good amount of income to the airports, competitions between Bosnian airports is fierce. There has been huge amount of pressure from a number of officials in the administration, at the state level, responsible for issuance and handling of permits for exports, to stop export of fresh meat and meat products from Tuzla International Airport in favor of both; Banja Luka and Sarajevo Airports. Thanks for quick and very professional  reaction from Mr. Mirko Šarović, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all administrative issues have been resolved in timely manner and flights have continued. Cargo flights from Tuzla to Istanbul started on June 2nd. Flights are operated by Turkish Airlines Cargo using Airbus 330-200 Freighter aircraft. Last year all transported meat from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Turkey was exported via airports in Banja Luka and Sarajevo, and generated survival income for Banja Luka airport. At the beginning of the year, management of Tuzla Int. Airport negotiated the deal with Turkish Airlines and companies selling meat products to its Turkish customers for flights to go exclusively from Tuzla International Airport. From the beginning of the year, the airport has invested in building necessary cooling facility for storage and transport of perishable goods. Taxation office and Veterinary inspection had to be set up a the airport as well. With the income from the cargo flights and increase number of the passengers using the airport, Tuzla International Airport will be self sustainable from the next year, without need for government subsidies for its operations.
