✈ Qatar Airways to resume Doha-Sarajevo flights in June

Qatar Airways has scheduled Doha-Sarajevo flights relaunch after two years break due to Corona virus pandemic. Qatari national airline will restart Sarajevo flights on June 03, 2022. operating flights three times a week on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. All flights are scheduled to operate with an Airbus A320 aircraft offering 12 seats in business and 132 seats in economy class. Qatar Airways is offering connections to 140 destinations across the World through its hub at Doha International Airport.

✈ Strong demand for air travel from Gulf countries to Sarajevo!

All airlines flying from Gulf countries to Sarajevo are recording extraordinarily strong demand for air travel to Sarajevo. At the beginning of the year the airlines were selling limited number of flights, but with the vaccines roll out and Covid cases under control in Bosnia, tourists from Gulf countries are returning in big numbers. Strong demand for vacationing in Bosnia has created many new flights between Gulf countries and Sarajevo.

From June 1^st FlyBosnia will fly two daily flights between Sarajevo and Riyadh. Flynas will maintain daily flights between two cities as well. During summer season Riyadh will have three daily flights from Sarajevo, making it most frequent route out of Sarajevo. Gulf destinations will definitely lead Sarajevo Airport to recovery from Covid-19 pandemic.

Two more airlines from Kuwait have applied for permit to operate flights from Kuwait City to Sarajevo, Kuwait Airways plans to introduce two weekly Kuwait–Sarajevo flights on June 07^th. Also, Jazeera Airways plans to launch Kuwait–Sarajevo flights on June 07^th with two weekly flights. Both airlines are waiting for approval from Kuwait Civil Aviation Authority for flight introduction. All Kuwait-Sarajevo flights are sold by the travel agencies with advanced bookings, even with approval coming late, the flights are already pre-booked.

Qatar Airways has postponed Sarajevo flight resumption until October, but this is a major mistake by the airline, since every single airline flying from that region is having remarkably successful summer.

The Gulf region-Sarajevo market is huge with solid growth year after year. The market has matured enough for Emirates to start its own flights, with two daily flights from Dubai in summer and at least 3 weekly flights during winter months.

Saudia Airlines is another strong contender for introduction of daily Sarajevo flights from Riyadh from March to October and 3 weekly flights during winter. Flights from Jeddah and Dammam could work as well.

In the future we will definitely see following airlines launching flights to Sarajevo: Gulf Air from Bahrain, Oman Air from Muscat, and Wizz Air from Abu Dhabi.

✈Qatar Airways has postponed Sarajevo relaunch

Qatar Airways has postponed  relaunch of Doha-Sarajevo flights for winter timetable 2021/22. This is second time for Qatar Airways to postpone Sarajevo relaunch after the flights were suspended in March of 2020 due to global pandemic. The restoration of diplomatic relations between Qatar and four Arab states is set to have big impact on Qatar Airways. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to restore ties with Qatar, ending a blockade that has been in place for more than three years. 

Largest number of passengers on Qatar Airways flights from Doha to Sarajevo are transfer passengers from Australia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait. Due to pandemic causing many borders to be closed transfer passengers are almost non existent, forcing Qatar Airways to postpone Sarajevo relaunch once again. In general air travel from and to Sarajevo during winter months is minimal, making return of flights from Doha in November very unlikely. Relaunch of Doha-Sarajevo flights most likely will happened in March of 2022, with possibility of daily flights from June 2022.

✈Qatar Airways Boeing 787 lands in Sarajevo!

Qatar Airways Boeing 787 airplane carrying 10 tons of three million Euro worth aid from Qatar for Bosnian healthcare institutions landed at the Sarajevo International Airport on Tuesday (19.05.2020).

Bisera Turkovic, the Foreign Affairs Minister, said the help that arrived from Qatar will be distributed to the hospitals across Bosnia and Herzegovina through pandemic crisis headquarters.

She said Qatar was the only Arab country to send the assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina despite the fact that this country is facing a more complex situation caused by the pandemic, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.

“The State of Qatar is a true friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Turkovic, thanking the people and Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, for the help during the difficult times their own country is facing during the coronavirus pandemic.

This is first ever visit of a Boeing 787 aircraft to any Bosnian airport.

✈ Qatar Airways suspends Sarajevo flights resumption until October

Qatar Airways on Wednesday (06MAY20) filed schedule and inventory changes for its entire network between 01JUN20 and 31AUG20. The following information is based on GDS inventory display based on research by route and date, between 0100GMT and 0700GMT 07MAY20.

As usual, further changes remain possible. In addition to all changes listed below, Qatar Airways will resume codeshare partnership with American Airlines starting 04JUN20, initially covering AA’s domestic US service via Chicago and Dallas/Ft. Worth. Planned codeshare routes will be covered in separate post.

✈Sarajevo - Persian Gulf region summer 2020 network

Sarajevo International Airport will see another solid year when comes to connectivity to countries in Persian Gulf region. The airport will see Kuwait Airways launching flights from Kuwait City and flynas from Gassim. Flynas will significantly increase number of flights from Riyadh and Jeddah, extending flying season to the end of September. Flydubai is the only airline from the Gulf region that will see major flight decreases, due to the fleet shortage caused by grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. 

Last summer season Flydubai operated three daily flights from Dubai to Sarajevo, while this summer season the airline will operate only one daily flight from Dubai to Sarajevo. Flydubai flights are operated in cooperation with Emirates, offering wide range of connections on Emirates network out of Dubai. 

FlyBosnia will operate same number of destinations in Persian Gulf region as it did last year. Riyadh is the only destination with less flights when compared to the last year. Last year, FlyBosnia operated daily flights from Sarajevo to Riyadh from mid-June to the end of September, while this summer season the airline will operate three weekly flights from June 03, to September 06.

Due to Corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak, changes to flight schedules and flight cancellations are very likely.

✈Qatar abolishes visas for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to travel to Qatar visa free for 90 days. Visa free travel was agreed at meeting between Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektic and Prime Minister of Qatar Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani held in Doha. Citizens of the State of Qatar are exempted from the visa requirements when entering, exiting or traveling through Bosnia and Herzegovina for up to 90 days.

Holders of  Bosnia and Herzegovina passport can travel without a visa to 117 countries. Bosnian passport is ranked 49th on the list of the most powerful passports in the world. Bosnia and Herzegovina is among the six countries that advanced the most on the list of the most  powerful passports. In the last 10 years Bosnian passport has moved from 72^nd to 49^th place.

Bosnian Ambassador to Qatar Bisera Turkovic  said in recent interview “with visa free travel between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar, Qatar Airways will most likely increase Doha-Sarajevo flights to daily at the beginning of summer schedule in April of next year”. Last summer during peak travel season Qatar Airways operated flights to Sarajevo with wide-body aircraft, an Airbus 330-200.

✈ Qatar Airways is deploying Airbus 330 to Sarajevo

During month of August, Qatar Airways is increasing capacity on Doha-Sarajevo route by using Airbus 321 and Airbus 330-200 aircraft. Qatar Airways is deploying larger aircraft to Sarajevo due to increased demand for both economy and business class seats. First flight operating by Airbus 330-200 is scheduled next Tuesday on August 13^th. Doha-Sarajevo route is operated four times per week by an Airbus 320, offering 132 seats (120 economy and 12 business seats). During month of August Qatar Airways will operate total of 17 round-trip flights between Doha and Sarajevo with following aircraft schedule:

✈Sarajevo Airport strong start for summer

With the beginning of Summer schedule of flights (which have started on March 31), Sarajevo Airport is already seeing stronger demand when compared to same period of the last year. Airlines are using larger aircraft on its flights to Sarajevo (Adria Airways is using A319 instead of CRJ-700/900, Austrian Airlines is using Airbus 320 and much larger 321, Swiss is using A220-300 with capacity to accommodate 145 passengers, and on some days A320, Next week Qatar Airways is using A321). For the first 11 days of the month airport serviced a total of 152 arriving and 152 departing commercial flights (total 304 commercial passengers flights). During the first 11 days of the month total number of seats offered on both arrivals and departures was 44.354. According to airlines timetable total of 120.000 seats are offered during this month to/from Sarajevo, but with increased demand airlines are adjusting to larger aircraft, this will add more seats then planed 120.000. My projection: Sarajevo Airport will handle 90.000 passengers in April.

Flightradar24  is showing FlyBosnia flights to: Riyadh (RUH), Rome (FCO), Moscow (SVO), Frankfurt (FRA) and London (LGW) but no flights are scheduled or being sold on the airlines website. The airline is very active on social media but no announcements of any sort about the possible launch date and destinations. If they were counting on Bosnian diaspora as they were saying then this summer for them is lost. For Bosnian family living in USA, Canada, Australia or even Europe, It takes months for family to arrange their vacation with their employers, airline tickets, hotels, rent a cars etc… Hopefully FlyBosnia won’t be yet another filed airline project.
