✈Passengers and cargo air traffic statistics between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zurich Airport photo by Flying Bosnian, August 2016

During last year a total of 29.811 passengers traveled by air between two countries. Last year majority of the passengers traveled on Basel-Tuzla route with Wizz Air. Sarajevo airport is connected to Zurich airport during summer months only. Swiss Air is holding monopoly on Zurich-Sarajevo route, and flights are often very expensive for such a short sector. Low cost carriers such Easyjet would be perfect solution for Sarajevo-Zurich flights, since Swiss Air is catering mostly to transatlantic transfer passengers. In the past BH Airlines offered five weekly flights from Sarajevo to Zurich with stop in Banja Luka. Zurich was most successful route for BH Airlines.

✈ Bosnia and Herzegovina-Sweden 2016 air traffic report

Sweden is third largest markets for air travel to/from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Turkey is number one, followed by Germany). More frequencies are added every year, especially during summer months. Flight are catering for large Bosnian diaspora in Sweden as well as growing number of Swedish tourist visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Data is missing for flights from Tuzla to Stockholm Skavsta (NYO) airport, this route is operated by Wizz air twice weekly during summer only (May-October). Number of passengers between two countries have seen solid increase every year since 2013, when Wizz air has started its operations from Tuzla International Airport to three destinations in Sweden. New, fourth destination in Sweden will be added next month: Wizz Air will start two weekly flights from Tuzla to Vaxjo on March 28.

✈ Sarajevo - Istanbul traffic statistics report from 2012 to 2015!

As of the year 2010, Istanbul with its two airports is the most popular destination from Sarajevo International Airport. Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST) is served by Turkish Airlines with 10 weekly flights during winter timetable and 18 weekly flights during summer timetable. In the past BH Airlines operated daily flights to Istanbul Ataturk Airport and this route was most profitable for the airline. Turkish Airlines operated flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) in 2014 from May to October. Flights from this airport were discontinued just after one summer season due to low demand for the flights and mostly due to the fact that Pegasus Airlines offered better pricing and more connections from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW). Pegasus Airlines started flights to Sarajevo on February 28. 2013. with five weekly flight, gradually increasing flights to daily in winter season and to 9 weekly in summer season. Statistic data for 2016 will be available in second half of this year. Number of passengers in 2016 between Sarajevo and two Istanbul airports is approximately around 320.000 passengers.

✈Sarajevo International Airport passenger growth continues in September

Sarajevo International Airport in 2005

A total of 79.120 passengers used the airport in September, representing an increase of 11,17%. The total number of available seats during the month of September was 101.386 and the average load factor on flights to/from Sarajevo was 78,04 %.
This year Sarajevo International Airport is expected to handle 800.000 passengers, an all time record high for the airport. Sarajevo International Airport should break a record of 1 million passengers handled in one year; in the year 2018. The current terminal building is designed for handling 800.000 passengers per year. This fall the airport is starting with several expansion projects: new taxiways, and expansion of apron is planed to accommodate 3 more aircraft(Airbus 320 or Boeing 737-800). With this expansion the airport will have the capacity to accommodate 10 aircraft at the same time (aircraft type Airbus 320 family, Boeing 737 family or smaller). The airport is planning to extend the terminal building also, adding one more air bridge and separating the Schengen and Non Schengen passengers required by the EU.
