Sarajevo International Airport has recorded its busiest June by handling 202.515  passengers, representing an increase of 51,19% or 68.570 passengers more when compared to the same month of last year. Aircraft operations recorded an increase of 33%, while cargo slightly decreased by 0,52% . Year to date Sarajevo Airport handled 727.981 passengers, an increase of 35,45%.

Sarajevo International Airport has recorded its busiest January by handling 77.545 passengers, representing an increase of 26,8% or 16.386 passengers more when compared to the same month of last year.

✈Sarajevo Airport summer timetable 2022

Sarajevo International Airport is ready for record summer months. Many new airlines and destinations will be introduced for the very first time from Bosnian capital city. During the summer months Sarajevo Airport will be served by 23 airlines, with flights to 41 airports in 22 countries on 3 continents (Asia, Africa, and Europe). New airlines starting scheduled flights to Sarajevo this summer are Air Cairo (Hurghada), LOT Polish Airlines (Warsaw) and Royal Jordanian Airlines (Amman). At the beginning of summer timetable Wizz Air introduced flights to London-Luton and Treviso-Venice, bringing the total of newly launched destinations to five. Qatar Airways has announced its return to Sarajevo from June 03, 2022. after a two years break. Doha-Sarajevo flights will be operated 3 times weekly with an Airbus 320 aircraft. A record number of flights will be operated during the months of July and August, with 607.004 seats on offer on 3.814 flights. With the average load factor of 80-85% during July and August, Sarajevo Airport is expected to record the largest number of passengers in the history of the airport (my projection for July is 235.000 and August 223.000 passengers). The average number of flight operations during this time of the year is 70 (35 arrivals and 35 departures).

Charter flights

Sarajevo Airport will be connected with charter flights to popular vacation destinations in Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia. Antalya will see a significant flight increase when compared to last year. Last year Anadolujet was the only airline operating Antalya-Sarajevo flights with 7 weekly services, while this year three airlines will fly the route, with Turkish Airline’s low lost subsidiary Anadolujet offering  9 weekly flights, followed by Pegasus Airlines and Freebird Airlines each offering two weekly flights. Second destination on Turkish coast Bodrum will see four weekly flights (two by Anadolujet and two by Freebird Airlines. Sarajevo-Monastir charter service will be operated by Nouvelair offering a total of 10 round trip flights.

✈ Sarajevo Airport is ready for very busy July

The month of July, Sarajevo Airport will see a total of 1.425 flights (712 arriving and 713 departing flights). Three new airlines will launch Sarajevo flights during July: Kuwait Airways, Jazeera Airways and Gulf Air. Destinations in Gulf region will see large number of flights during the month of July with record number of destinations served in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Total of 120 round trip weekly flights are scheduled between Sarajevo and Gulf destinations during the month of July.

Norwegian Air will mark its return to Sarajevo after 15 months of absence due to the pandemic. Norwegian Air will operate two weekly flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Sarajevo until the end of summer flight schedule. During the month of July Sarajevo Airport will be served by 19 airlines on 32 destinations with approximately 220.000 seats on offer.

✈ Sarajevo Airport flights resumption schedule

Next couple of months will see many airlines resuming Sarajevo service and many will introduce new destinations, linking Sarajevo with record number of destinations. The month of April will see three route resumptions (two routes by Eurowings to Cologne and Stuttgart and one by Swiss Air Lines to Zurich). The month of May will see eleven new routes being launched (nine by Wizz Air, one by Lufthansa to Frankfurt and one buy AnadoluJet to Antalya). The month of June will see three new routes being launched  (two by FlyBosnia to Bodrum and Hurghada, and one by AnadoluJet to Bodrum, and three route resumptions ( all three by Norwegian Air to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm). FlyBosnia is expected to announce its summer network on May 07, 2021. with new flights to Bahrain, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. With addition of FlyBosnia network Sarajevo Airport will be connected with record 31 destination in 19 countries.

✈Record January for Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo Airport has recorded its busiest January, since opening its doors 50 years ago. During the month of January, the airport has recorded 58.397 passengers, representing an increase of 9,18%, or 4.912 passengers more compared to the same month of the last year. Number of aircraft operations decreased by 4,27% from 819 to 784. Cargo handled increased by 9,16% from 167 tons in January of 2019 to 182,3 tons in January of 2020.

✈Bosnia and Herzegovina air traffic report for 2019

During last year, a record number of passengers has passed through four international airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Three airports broke their own records in terms of passengers handled. Sarajevo for the second time in its 50 years history recorded over 1 million passengers, the airport recorded 1.143.680 passengers going through its doors representing an increase of 9,2% over last year, followed by Tuzla with 593.083 passengers, an increase of 1,4% and Banja Luka with 149.693 passengers with increase of 313,7% over last year, added the largest number of passengers 113.513 . Mostar Airport recorded small increase in passengers’ numbers handling a total of  32.866 passengers, an increase of 15,4%. All four airports added additional 223.455 passengers when compared to the year before.

Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded 1.919.289 passengers representing an increase of 13,1% over last year.

✈Record year for Sarajevo and Tuzla airports

In 2019, two largest airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina have recorded its busiest year on the record. 

Sarajevo International Airport welcomed 1.143.680 passengers in 2019, representing an increase of 9,27% or 97.045 passengers more compared to 2018. The airport recorded 13.671 aircraft movement, an increase of 1,77%, small increase of 0,61% in cargo handled is recorded too. Sarajevo Airport is expecting another record year when new terminal will be put in function. Lufthansa is adding second daily flight from Munich from April which will significantly  improve passenger numbers. The airport will  see boost in charter flights this coming summer with charter flights to Antalya, Monastir and Hurgada.

Tuzla International Airport welcomed 592.384 passengers in 2019, representing an increase of 1,33% or 7.795 passengers more compared to 2018. During last year the airport recorded decrees in both aircraft movements and cargo handled. Tuzla Airport will also see boost in charter flight in upcoming summer season. Freebird Airlines will operate a total of 31 round trip flights (compared to just 15 round trip flights in 2019). Possibility of charter flights from Tuzla to Hurgada are very likely.

✈Record October for Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo Airport has recorded its busiest October on the record since opening its doors 50 years ago. During the month of October, the airport has recorded 95.628 passengers, representing an increase of 14,30%, or 11.968 passengers more compared to the same month of the last year. Year to date airport recorded 1.018.604 passengers, representing an increase of 9,41% or 87.639 passengers more.

✈Sarajevo International Airport welcomes millionth passenger!

Today, October 25. 2019, Sarajevo International Airport handled its millionth passenger of the year.  The one-millionth passenger is handled 40 days ahead of the last year.

Year to date Sarajevo Airport handled 1.000.000 passengers, representing an increase of 8%, or  78.000 passengers more, compared to same time of the last year. Sarajevo Airport is anticipating on welcoming 1.125.000  passengers this year.

✈Record September for Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo Airport has recorded its busiest September on the record since opening its doors 50 years ago. During the month of September, the airport has recorded 105.370 passengers, representing an increase of 7,27%, or 7.143 passengers more compared to the same month of the last year.

Year to date  the airport recorded 922.976 passengers, representing an increase of 8,93% or 75.721 passengers more. For the first time, Sarajevo airport has recorded over 100.000 passengers for four months in a row. The month of October is expected to see a solid growth too, when one millionth passenger for this year  is expected.

✈Record August for Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo Airport has recorded its busiest August on the record since opening its doors 50 years ago. During the month of August, the airport has recorded 178.943 passengers, representing an increase of 12,18%, or 19.437 passengers more compared to the same month of the last year. Year to date airport recorded 817.606 passengers, representing an increase of 9,15% or 68.578 passengers more. 

Double digit increase in passengers was fueled by the introduction of many flights to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain. During August FlyBosnia operated daily flights to Riyadh, two weekly flights to Jeddah and Kuwait and one weekly flights to Bahrain, Gassim and Monastir. Also, during last month the airline operated 12 flights from Medina to Sarajevo bringing around 1.700 Bosian pilgrims returning home from Hajj pilgrimage. 

Flynas had strong presence in Sarajevo during the last month with its daily flights from Riyadh and five weekly flights from Jeddah. Initially Flynas scheduled 3 weekly flights from Riyadh and two weekly flights from Jeddah, but due to extremely high demand flights were upgraded to daily and five weekly. 

Qatar Airways significantly increased capacity on its Doha-Sarajevo route by upgrading aircraft from Airbus 320 to Airbus 321 for the first half of the month, and increasing it again to Airbus 330-200 during the second half of August. 

From the first week of June until the last week of August demand for airline seats from: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman is increasing every year, due to many tourist agencies offering vacation packages to Bosnia and Herzegovina promoting Halal tourism. In the past three years many tourists from these countries switched from vacationing in Turkey and other European countries to Bosnia and Herzegovina due to its hospitality towards Muslim population and safety. In coming years, we can see these numbers growing with more airlines discovering Bosnia and Herzegovina as perfect tourist destination.

Record number of flights from/to Sarajevo Airport are scheduled to operate on August 17, with 60 commercial operation (30 arrivals and 30 departures). FlyBosnia will operate record number of flights in one day as well. Total of 14 flights will be operated by FlyBosnia due to Hajj charter flights.

Total of 9.036 seats are on offer for August 17^th, 4.518 available seats on arriving flights and 4.518 available seats on departure flights. Number of available seats open for bookings is less by 600 seats, since FlyBosnia’s Sarajevo-Medina flights are positioning, ferry flights. Sarajevo Airport will record around 7.000 passengers using the airport on that day, one of the largest number of passengers recorded in one day. Largest number of passengers using Sarajevo Airport in 24 hours period, was recorded in February of 1984, on the last day of 14^th Winter Olympic Games, with 14.000 passengers going through the airport that day.

✈Record July for Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo Airport has recorded its busiest month on the record since opening its doors 50 years ago. During July airport recorded 180.929 passengers using the airport, representing an increase of  13,43%, or 21.549 passengers more compared to the same month of the last year. Year to date airport recorded 638.663 passengers, representing an increase of of 8,33% or 49.141 passengers more. 

The month of August is going to be another record month for the airport with Haj flights operating during this month, total of 24 flights (12 inbound and 12 outbound) are scheduled between Sarajevo and Medina. Bosnian airline FlyBosnia is operating Hajj flights this year. Qatar Airways is increasing capacity on its Doha-Sarajevo route by using Airbus 321 for the first half of August, increasing it again to Airbus 330 during the second half of August. Flynas is adding extra flights between Jeddah and Sarajevo, increasing its service from two weekly to five weekly.

Sarajevo Airport has recorded incredible 28,18% passenger growth in June or an increase of 26.208 passengers compared to the same month of the last year. Year to date airport recorded 457.734 passengers, representing an increase of of 6,41% or 27.592 passengers more. July and August usually are the busiest months of the year for Sarajevo Airport, especially this year with 10 new routes introduced during month of June and increased frequencies on many existing routes. Sarajevo airport is expecting to handle around  380.000 passengers in July and August.
