✈Sarajevo Airport to purchase two apron buses

Sarajevo International Airport has open tender procedure for purchase of two new airport apron buses. The airport has allocated 1,5 million Bosnian Marks (766.000 Euros) for the purchase. Purchase will be financed from Sarajevo Airport own funds. Tender is open until 02.11.2018. Back in 2010. Sarajevo Airport purchased two new apron buses from COBUS, a reputable German manufacturer. COBUS is the world leading producer of the buses especially designed for ground handling of passengers at the airports.

✈Tuzla Airport signed contract to build new terminal!

Today (25.09.2017.), Tuzla Airport has signed a contract to start the construction of multi million-euro terminal building. New terminal building will stretch over an area of 4.915 square meters, up from the current 2.971 square meters.

When completed, the capacity of new terminal will enable airport to handle 800 passengers per hour, which is double the existing amount. The expansion project is valued at 3.3 million euros and its expected to be completed by March of 2018.

Tuzla Airport will finish this year with record number of 500.000 passengers.

✈Sarajevo Airport-important announcement!

Please be informed that in the period from September 29 till October 31, 2017 works will be in progress on extension of the baggage conveyor belt system and check-in counters. In order to avoid possible delays and traffic jams, we kindly ask Flydubai and Wataniya Airways passengers to appear at check-in counter 3 (three) hours before scheduled flight time. ✈Bosnia and Herzegovina is popular travel destination from the USA

The New York Times article of most traveled destinations abroad by each state in the Union.Bosnia and Herzegovina came as number one destination traveled from following states: Iowa, Kentucky and Missouri.

Substantial number of people traveled to Bosnia and Herzegovina from following states: Arizona (second place), Vermont (second place), Idaho (third place),  North Dakota (fourth place) and New Hampshire (fifth place).

Bosnians make up the largest Eastern European group in Missouri. The Bosnian population is so prominent that St. Louis has a neighborhood called Little Bosnia. Immigration from Bosnia swelled during the early 1990's as refugees fled the war there.

The peak season for Bosnians traveling to their country of origin is July, which coincides with the anniversary of the Bosnian genocide of 1995 when over eight thousand Bosniaks were killed by the Serb Army (Vojska Republike Srpske ) and paramilitary units from Serbia.

“We have people who will go there to bury the remains of their loved ones, or to visit the graves of the massacre,” said Akif Cogo, president of the local nonprofit St. Louis Bosnians. The anniversary probably explains the high rankings of people traveling to Bosnia and Herzegovina in neighboring states Iowa and Kentucky.

✈Austrian Airlines Vienna-Sarajevo winter flight reduction

In winter timetable, Austrian Airlines flights from Vienna to Sarajevo will see additional reduction. Compared to last year’s winter schedule when Austrian Airlines operated 12 weekly flights between two cities, this year schedule will see reductions from 4 to 2 additional weekly flights. Reduction in number of operated flights is due to increased capacity. In winter season Austrian Airlines used to operate Sarajevo flights with a mix of Fokker 70/100 aircraft. As of November, Austrian Airlines is retiring its Fokker fleet (Austrian Airlines sold its Fokker fleet to Australian Alliance Airlines for $15 million US). All previous flights operated with Fokker aircraft will be replaced with larger Embraer 195 aircraft. Austrian Airlines Embraer 195 aircraft has capacity to accommodate 120 passengers while Fokker 70 capacity was 70 seats and Fokker 100 capacity was 100 seats. Month of February will see biggest reduction in flights when weekly number of flights will fall to only eight flights.

✈Turkish Airlines is increasing flights to Sarajevo

In winter timetable, Turkish Airlines is adding one more weekly flight between Istanbul Ataturk Airport and Sarajevo. During winter timetable Turkish Airlines will operate a total of 11  weekly round-trip flights between two cities, representing an increase of one weekly flight compared to the winter schedule of last year. Additional flight will be operated on Saturdays with Airbus 319 aircraft (smallest aircraft in Turkish Airlines fleet). Additional flight is a response to increased competition on Istanbul-Sarajevo sector. In June of this year Atlas Global introduced four weekly flights Istanbul-Sarajevo, competing directly with Turkish Airlines and indirectly with Pegasus Airlines flying to Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side of the city. Next year, Atlas Global will most likely increase Istanbul-Sarajevo flights to daily.

✈Eurowings to increase Stuttgart-Sarajevo flights!

In summer schedule of 2018. Eurowings will start second weekly Stuttgart-Sarajevo flight at the beginning of summer schedule on March 27 instead of peak summer months as was the case in the past. Eurowings will operate Stuttgart- Sarajevo flights twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays from March 27. to October 27. 2018. Eurowings second destinations from Sarajevo, Cologne will be served with three weekly flights, increasing to four weekly flights from July 20 to August 24. Eurowings will offer many destinations from Sarajevo across Europe on a single ticket  with one stop in one of its hub airports (Stuttgart or Cologne). The airline provides very fast and smooth connections at both airports with checked luggage going to the final destination.

✈Tuzla Airport Winter schedule 2017/18

During winter timetable Tuzla International Airport will see increase in air traffic compared to the last winter season, but less flights will be offered compared to the summer schedule. Wizz Air in winter season is adjusting service at the airport, as selected routes are being converted to seasonal service (summer-only), while selected routes see frequency adjustments. Thirteen destinations in five European countries will be served from Tuzla during winter season. Bratislava, London and Nuremberg will be operated during summer months, resuming last week of March 2018.

The 2017/18 winter timetable enters into force on Sunday, October 29^th. Until March 24^th of 2018. passengers will be able to fly to 14 destinations in 11 countries in Europe and Gulf region. The airlines will offer a total of 83 weekly departures, compared to the winter of last year number of weekly departures have increased by 14 flights.

✈EUROCONTROL congratulates the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on reaching its twentieth anniversary!

Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina – On 12 September Frank Brenner, Director General EUROCONTROL, joined distinguished guests from European ATM to celebrate 20 years of the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHDCA).

Mr. Brenner noted that in that time, Bosnia and Herzegovina had joined EUROCONTROL to become its 32nd member in 2004, playing a key role in European ATM within an Organisation that now counts on 41 Member States as well as two Comprehensive Agreement States in the shape of Israel and Morocco. 

Looking back on a highly successful partnership, Mr. Brenner congratulated BDHCA for its tireless work in developing a regulatory and safety framework, and for its achievement in creating FABCE, a functional airspace block aimed at jointly improving performance, which has seen the successful introduction of Free Route Airspace above flight level 310.

“There are over 300,000 flights a year in the skies of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, noted Mr. Brenner, “and that figure is set to increase to close to 400,000 over the next seven years.  The south-east axis is vitally important to the European network, and it is essential that each country provides the capacity required for the region as a whole. EUROCONTROL and Bosnia Herzegovina are partners in this with very real success. We at EUROCONTROL, are proud to have supported Bosnia & Herzegovina in implementing European Single Sky Regulations that separate oversight of the DGCA with operations in the newly founded BHANSA. The staff of EUROCONTROL Directorate Pan-European Single Sky and the Network Manager provide support on a wide range of areas, from training to detailed planning for the implementation of the new ATM arrangements for the country.  It’s an effective and productive partnership, as demonstrated by the fact that 48 airspace design improvement packages were implemented between 2009 and 2017.” 

Mr. Đorđe Ratkovica, BHDCA Director General, said: “BHDCA would not have been able to realise such a complex project, implemented in the whole territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, without the enormous assistance we received from the international aviation institutions: ICAO, EUROCONTROL, CEATS Strategy Planning and Development Unit and their experts and also from the EU delegation to BiH and the EBRD Office in BiH. Therefore, our heartfelt thanks go to all of them as well as to each individual participant in the implementation of the BHATM project”.

The ceremony was opened by His Excellency Dr. Branko Dokić, special representative of Dr Mladen Ivanić, Member of the BH Presidency and former BH minister of communication and transport, with key speeches delivered by His Excellency Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, President of the ICAO Council; Mr. Frank Brenner, Director General EUROCONTROL, Mr. Salvatore Sciacchitano, ECAC Executive Secretary; and Mr. Victor Aguado, former EUROCONTROL Director General.

✈Tuzla-London air passenger traffic data

During January-July period, a total of 13.490 passengers traveled on Wizz Air flights between Tuzla and  London Luton Airport. In the first seven months of the year Wizz Air operated a total of 100 flights between two cities, with average cabin load factor of 75,00%. Average cabin load factor of 75,00% wasn’t enough for the airline to keep flights year-round. Wizz Air will convert its service between Tuzla and London Luton to summer seasonal on the first anniversary of the first flight. Two weekly flights will resume on 27. March 2018.

✈Air Serbia to reduce Banja Luka flights

During winter timetable Banja Luka airport will be connected to Belgrade with two flights per week. Compared to last winter Air Serbia will reduce its service between Belgrade and Banja Luka from three flights per week to just two weekly flights. Even though flights are subsidized by local government the demand for the flights is very low. Air Serbia used to fly daily from its hub at Belgrade Airport to Banja Luka, reducing flights to five per week during last year, to three weekly last winter and now to just two flights per week.

✈Record year for Tuzla Airport!

Tuzla International Airport has recorded strong growth over summer months. The airport has surpassed whole 2016 in the number of passengers handled. With the end of August, the airport handled a total of 353.423 passengers representing an increase of 72,15% on the same period of last year. By the end of this year Tuzla Airport anticipate handling over 500.000 passengers!

✈Record August for Sarajevo Airport!

Sarajevo International Airport recorded the best month in history. 144.330 passengers traveled through the airport last month, an increase of  of 21,95 % comparing to the same month of last year. Sarajevo Airport has broken previous record from July when 140.025 passengers traveled through the airport. Last month airport handled on average 4.516 passengers each day. Last month most popular countries to fly to and from Sarajevo Airport were: Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Germany and Austria. Double digit growth is expected to continue in September and October.

✈Wizz Air no more fees for hand luggage from October 29th!

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announces that passengers will no longer be charged an additional fee to bring a large item of hand baggage into the aircraft cabin on all Wizz Air flights, from 29 October 2017.

• Passengers will be entitled to bring on board one item of hand luggage which meets the dimensions of 55x40x23 cm and 10 kg weight. This bag is included in the ticket price.
• This represents a 50% increase in volume compared to the previous size of free luggage allowance
• Customers travelling on or after 29 October 2017 that have already purchased hand luggage directly through Wizz Air channels will be reimbursed with 120% of the price paid, credited to their WIZZ accounts

In customer satisfaction surveys more than 80% of Wizz Air passengers** scored WIZZ highly in terms of on-board experience, friendliness and professionalism of staff. Wizz Air continuously listens to customer feedback, which is why Wizz Air believes that the new hand luggage policy will enhance the WIZZ travel experience even further.

Today the airline also announces a new service option for passengers called WIZZ Priority. Valid on all flights from today, WIZZ Priority now includes:

• Priority boarding
• Passengers able to bring an additional small bag (maximum dimensions of 40x30x18cm) into the cabin
• From 29 October, a guarantee that hand luggage will be placed in the cabin (also available for passengers when purchasing WIZZ Go, WIZZ Plus and the WIZZ Privilege Pass)
