✈ Eight Million Bosnian Marks for Mostar Airport

The Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County adopted the budget for the year 2022, with eight million Bosnian Marks (four million Euros), to be allocated for Mostar Airport air traffic development. The funds will be used to subsidize low-cost carriers to start flight to Mostar Airport.

Just recently the Mayor of Mostar, Mr. Mario Kordić, held talks with Wizz Air, Eurowings, and Air Dolomites at the Annual World Route development forum in Milan on possible flight introductions to Mostar Airport.

If managed properly, the subsidized amount of eight million Marks could mean the revival of Mostar Airport, with flights to Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and Austria to accommodate the Bosnian diaspora. Religious tourism (within Medjugorje) has huge potential with possibility of flights from Italy, Spain, Poland, and Ireland.

Eurowings is the only airline with confirmed flights in the upcoming summer season. The airline will operate a very limited number of flights from Dusseldorf to Mostar.

✈LOT Polish Airlines expanding code share network to Bosnia and Herzegovina

LOT Polish Airlines is expending the code share operation with Croatia Airlines on flights from Zagreb to Sarajevo and Mostar. New code share between two companies has started on January 1, 2020.

From January to November of 2019, total of 37.125 polish tourists visited Bosnia and Herzegovina. Majority of polish tourist are visiting catholic pilgrimage in Medjugorje. Possibility of direct flights between Poland and Mostar has been subject of talks between Mostar Airport authorities and Ryanair.

✈FlyBosnia is launching Mostar-Rome flights

Today FlyBosnia is introducing one weekly service between Mostar and Rome. As of today,  one of FlyBosnia two weekly flights between Sarajevo and Rome will have a stop in Mostar.

Mostar is very interesting to the citizens of Italy because of its proximity to Medjugorje as one of the most famous Roman Catholic pilgrimage destinations in the world. Medjugorje became known through the apparitions of the Virgin Mary‚ which began to emerge as a phenomenon in 1981‚ after which religious tourism began to develop in the city. Since then‚ this place of Herzegovina‚ besides Sarajevo‚ is one of the most visited tourist centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina‚ visited annually by around one million people from all over the world.

✈FlyBosnia adds Italy-Mostar charter flights

Yesterday FlyBosnia operated its first charter flight from Naples to Mostar, bringing 138 people for a visit to Catholic pilgrimage in Medjugorje. The airline has signed cooperation agreement with Italian tour operator Green Center from Perugia, specializing in religious tourism. The first flight from Naples to Mostar is an integral part of the significant flight schedule that FlyBosnia, in agreement with Italy's leading Tour Operator Green Center, will establish for 2019 and 2020 to bring Catholic pilgrims from Italy to Mostar (Medjugorje). FlyBosnia will operate flights from Bari, Catania, Naples and Rome.

By signing this new contract, FlyBosnia further contributes to the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina tourism and economy. The company currently operates two Airbus 319 aircraft and expects a third Airbus 319 aircraft to join the fleet in early 2020. Due to the limited capacity of Sarajevo Airport, FlyBosnia is currently considering options to establish a base for a third aircraft in Mostar, Banja Luka or Tuzla.

✈ New equipment for Mostar airport

Mostar Airport is getting prepared for the arrival of a low-cost carrier with regular scheduled flights from the city for the first time. Expansion and modernization of the terminal building is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. During last month, the airport recieved deliveries of various equipment :

• Vehicle for handling passengers with reduced mobility (passengers in wheelchairs and or stretchers) which enables safe and comfortable access to and from the aircraft cabin.
• Vehicle for cleaning aircraft toilets.
• Vehicle to transport drinking water to and from the aircraft.
• Ground power units
• Conveyor belt for luggage loading and unloading. 

Charter flights
Mostar airport is well known for its summer seasonal charter flights, mostly to and from Italy, catering to Italian Catholic pilgrims visiting Medjugorje. This is a popular site of Catholic pilgrimage due to reports of alleged appearance of the Virgin Mary.During this year Mistral Air will offer majority of flights to and from Mostar to: Rome, Naples, Bari and Milan, followed by Croatia Airlines with charter flights from Mostar to Beirut.
Eurowings to Germany
Last month, airport officials held a meeting with the German low-cost carrier Eurowings over possible flights from Stuttgart and Cologne to Mostar.  According to the airport officials, Eurowings will most likely start two weekly flights from Stuttgart to Mostar with the start of summer timetable of flights. City of Mostar and Herzegovina-Neretva County Government have allocated 230.000 Euros to support scheduled air service from the city. Eurowing is owned by Lufthansa Group.
Flights to Turkey
Turkish Airlines has shown interest in connecting Mostar and Istanbul, but these flights won’t materialize until the new Istanbul airport is open. Flights to Istanbul Ataturk airport are possible as Istanbul-Sarajevo-Mostar-Istanbul flights. Pegasus Airlines with its low cost carrier structure has possibility of introducing summer seasonal flights to Mostar.

✈Busy May at Mostar International Airport

Mostar International Airport is expecting to finish this month with over 10.000 passengers using the airport. Today alone airport is expecting 1.800 passengers. Croatia Airlines is operating double daily from Beirut once per week, both flights are operated with largest aircraft in Croatia Airlines fleet an Airbus 320. Mistral Air, is still the airline with largest number of flights to Mostar followed by BH Airlines.

✈Croatia Airlines on charter flights from Mostar to Beirut

This year Croatia Airlines is the only airline providing direct charter flights between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Beirut. In the past years Lebanese national air carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) was operating service from Beirut to Sarajevo once per week on board of an Airbus 321 from April to October. Last year Croatia Airlines did couple of flights between Mostar and Beirut making it much more appealing and easier for passengers from Lebanon to reach final destination Medjugorje, which is only 30 minutes’ drive from Mostar Airport. This year Croatia Airlines will fly the route once per week until end of October using Airbus 320 with 174 seats.
