✈ Eight Million Bosnian Marks for Mostar Airport

The Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County adopted the budget for the year 2022, with eight million Bosnian Marks (four million Euros), to be allocated for Mostar Airport air traffic development. The funds will be used to subsidize low-cost carriers to start flight to Mostar Airport.

Just recently the Mayor of Mostar, Mr. Mario Kordić, held talks with Wizz Air, Eurowings, and Air Dolomites at the Annual World Route development forum in Milan on possible flight introductions to Mostar Airport.

If managed properly, the subsidized amount of eight million Marks could mean the revival of Mostar Airport, with flights to Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and Austria to accommodate the Bosnian diaspora. Religious tourism (within Medjugorje) has huge potential with possibility of flights from Italy, Spain, Poland, and Ireland.

Eurowings is the only airline with confirmed flights in the upcoming summer season. The airline will operate a very limited number of flights from Dusseldorf to Mostar.

✈ Government to delay dividend collection from Sarajevo Airport

The Government of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has passed a Decision to delay collection of dividends from the public enterprise Sarajevo International Airport for a period of ten years.

The Government of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in exercising the authority of the Assembly of the enterprise of Sarajevo International Airport, will not make decisions on the distribution of profits for the payment of dividends or profit-sharing, from undistributed (accumulated) profit reported in the business books on December 31, 2020, or from the profit realized for a period of ten years after the adoption of this decision.

The proceeds will be used to finance investments determined by the business plans of the Sarajevo International Airport.

The decision was made after Sarajevo International Airport was forced to stop a significant number of ongoing investment projects due to coronavirus pandemic. The Government’s  decision is especially important for future airport development.

✈Bosnian Airports temporarily closed as of today!

The Bosnian government has decided to temporarily close all four international  airports in the country for passenger travel from March 30. due to coronavirus pandemic.

“Airports will be closed for all passenger traffic from March 30. The reason airports stayed opened until yesterday is due to many Bosnian citizens returning home after being stuck around the world airports due to coronavirus pandemic and for delivery of the equipment that will help Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight against the coronavirus,” Bosnian prime minister Zoran Tegeltija said. After March 30tt  the airports will remain open for cargo and medical flights only, he added.

Closed Airports:

• Banja Luka International Airport (BNX)
• Mostar International Airport (OMO)
• Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ)
• Tuzla International Airport (TZL)

Bosnian Government also amended the decision on the conditions for entry of foreign citizens into Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to this amendment, all foreign citizens are barred from entering the country unless they are diplomats or medical staff or foreign staff that will work in Bosnia on mitigating the coronavirus pandemic.

✈Local Government will continue to subsidize Eurowings flights to Mostar !

The Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County, at a session held on Friday in Mostar, gave its consent to subsidize Eurowings flights to Mostar International Airport. In the budget for 2018, the Government secured 500.000 KM (255.000 Euros) for this purpose, and has pledged to provide funds for subsidizing the expenditures in the budgets for the period from 2019 to 2023.

 “Considering that Mostar International Airport provides general services of economic interest, the contribution to better mobility of citizens becomes visible. Connecting Mostar and the Herzegovina-Neretva County, with wider region, seeks to create the best possible conditions for a stronger economic development. This will be done particularly through better air transport links, as well as the availability/increase of tourist demand in Herzegovina-Neretva destinations. “, said Nevenko Herceg, the Prime Minister of the County.

Eurowings is scheduled to start Summer seasonal flights from Dusseldorf and Stuttgart on May 16. Flights will operate twice a week from each destination. Eurowings will be using Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircraft with capacity to seat 76 passengers. Flights will be operated by  Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW) on behalf of Eurowings.
