✈Lufthansa, Frankfurt-Sarajevo statistics

Lufthansa launched Frankfurt-Sarajevo flights on May 03, 2021. From May 2021. to the end of the year Lufthansa operated a total of 372 flights, transporting 31.932 passengers (departing 16.315 passengers, arriving 15.617 passengers). During the year 2021. the average cabin load factor was 68%, averaging 86 passengers per flight. Flights operated by Airbus 319 aircraft, offering 126 seats.

Data for the first eleven months of the year 2022 shows improvement in all areas. The number of passengers carried grew to 63.438 passengers, flights operated increased to 544, with an average cabin load factor of 86%, averaging 117 passengers per flight. Lufthansa will finish the year 2022 with 70.000 passengers carried between Frankfurt and Sarajevo. From April 2023 Lufthansa will increase Frankfurt-Sarajevo flights from 7 to 10 weekly. All flights are scheduled to operate with Airbus 320neo aircraft, offering 164 seats (38 seats more than currently operating Airbus 319). With the increased number of flights, and aircraft with larger seating capacity, we can expect Lufthansa to handle close to 100.000 passengers during this year.

During the pandemic Lufthansa discontinued Munich-Sarajevo flights in favor of Frankfurt-Sarajevo due to much larger connection possibilities. Even though Munich is very popular destination out of Sarajevo, due to large Bosnian diaspora living in the city and very strong economic ties between Bavaria and Bosnia, Lufthansa still does not have resumption date of Munich-Sarajevo flights.

Secondary Munich Airport (Memmingen), called by the low-cost carriers Munich West, is served by both Wizz Air and Ryanair offering flights to Banja Luka and Tuzla, Sarajevo flights were offered as well during last year. At the beginning of summer timetable in April, Ryanair will fly Memmingen-Banja Luka six times per week (every day but Saturday). Tuzla-Memmingen will have daily flights (5x weekly by Wizz Air and 2x weekly by Ryanair). It is very likely that Lufthansa will reintroduce Munich-Sarajevo flights during the next year.
