The fifth pillar of Islam is to make a pilgrimage (Hajj) to
Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, at least once in one's lifetime. This pillar is
obligatory for every Muslim, male or female, provided that he/she is physically
and financially able to do so. Total of seven charter flights will take pilgrims
from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Holy city of Mecca. This year will be the
first year when all pilgrims will travel by air only, due to ongoing war in
Syria.In the past pilgrims traveled by bus as well. Total of 1411 pilgrims
will travel by air. All flight will depart and return to Sarajevo International
Airport. In the past Air Mediterrannee was the airline flying pilgrims to Saudi
Arabia and back with an Airbus 321 aircraft. This year flights are
scheduled with Turkish airline Atlas Global Airlines (just recently renamed
from Atlas Jet Airlines) using an Airbus 321 with seating capacity of 200 passengers.
