✈Analysis of summer timetable for Sarajevo Int. Airport

This year Sarajevo Airport will break all-time record in all areas of operations. As Bosnia and Herzegovina is positioning its self on tourist map, demand for air travel to Bosnian main airport is getting stronger every year. Currently Bosnia and Herzegovina see large number of tourist visiting the country from May to October, even though Bosnia and Herzegovina has huge potential for winter tourism as well. Sarajevo Airport is following the demand with planed airport expansion, due to start in October of this year. After the necessary expansion, Sarajevo Airport will be able to handle 2 million passengers per year. High seasonality in flights is still main issue for the airport, during summer months there are twice as many flights and passengers compared to the winter months.

✈ Eurowings has cancelled plans to launch flights from Dusseldorf to Sarajevo

Eurowings has decided to cancel planed service from Dusseldorf to Sarajevo. Flights were scheduled to begin on November 2, with two weekly rotations between two cities. In the past Eurowings failed to secure enough passengers to keep Berlin-Sarajevo flights profitable. Flights from Berlin operated by the airline for nine months only. At this moment is hard to say what is the main reason for canceling the flights, since tickets were on sale for less than a month. It is rumored that Eurowings will launch flights to Mostar Airport instead, since the local government will subsidize the flights. Earlier this month Mostar Airport has announced beginning of flights to Germany by the end of October. Eurowings operates year-round flights to Sarajevo from Cologne and Stuttgart. Cologne is operated three times per week (four weekly in summer) while Stuttgart is operated only once per week (twice weekly in summer). Main competitor to Eurowings on Bosnian market is Wizz Air. Wizz Air is flying from Tuzla to seven destinations in Germany. Most popular German route from Tuzla is Dortmund with 49.319 passengers in 2016, followed by Frankfurt Hahn  and Memmingen. Since December of last year Wizz Air added flights from Tuzla to: Berlin, Cologne, Friedrichshafen and Nuremberg.
