✈ AJet launches Istanbul-Tuzla flights

Türkiye's  airline Ajet, the low-cost subsidiary of Turkish Airlines (THY), launched direct flights from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tuzla International Airport located in northeastern part of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The opening of the new route was marked with a ceremony at Tuzla International Airport, attended by Turkish Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, AJet CEO Kerem Sarp and the local authorities.

The flights are scheduled to operate once per week on Mondays pending an increase in case of rising demand, Sarp said. Speaking at the ceremony, Uraloğlu expressed his believe that "the launch of Istanbul-Tuzla flights will improve relations and trade between the two countries."

Türkiye is known to have strong historical and cultural ties with Bosnia-Herzegovina, and many Turkish companies, from construction and health to banking and financing sectors, are operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Recently, Pegasus Airlines, also launched flights on the same route, with plans to continue expansion on Bosnian market with introduction of flights between Istanbul and Mostar. Uraloğlu, in his speech, recalled the expansion of AJet following the start of its operations under its new name in March this year, noting that since Oct. 1, the carrier introduced seven new routes, adding that Tuzla is the eighth.

He also pointed to Turkish Airlines and Ajet extensive flight network, adding that they aim to further increase the number of points the carriers fly to by the end of the year. "Today, we fly from Türkiye to 347 different points in 131 countries. We will increase this to 349 by the end of the year," he said. For his part, Sarp said that with this flight, they built "another bridge" between Türkiye and Bosnia-Herzegovina, two friendly countries.

He also noted that Ajet carry their passengers to 95 different destinations, with a modernized fleet of 85 aircraft. He added that the new route represents their second line in Bosnia-Herzegovina as they operate seven weekly flights to the capital, Sarajevo.

✈Pegasus Airlines to launch Istanbul-Tuzla flights

Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines will connect Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport and Tuzla with one weekly service starting August 24^th. The flights are scheduled to operate on year-round basis with an Airbus 320neo aircraft offering 180 seats.

✈ Anadolujet launches Istanbul-Sarajevo flights

First AnadoluJet aircraft on the new Istanbul-Sarajevo-Istanbul route landed at Sarajevo International Airport today with a traditional water salute organized on the occasion.AnadoluJet operates as part of Turkish Airlines, and as of today it has started flights to Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, which is located on the Asian side of Istanbul.

AnadoluJet will connect Sarajevo and Istanbul three times a week: on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft offering 189 seats. Departure time from Sarajevo  is 14:50 local time.

From today AnadoluJet has a special promotion of return tickets on the new established route Sarajevo-Istanbul-Sarajevo starting 59.00 EUR. This special offer will last until March 31, 2021.

In addition to Istanbul, the company plans to introduce flights to the Turkish resort towns Antalya and Bodrum on turkish coast.Flights from Antalya will start om May 19. with three times a week, increasing to daily from June 29. Flights from Bodrum to Sarajevo will start on June 07. Operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

✈ Anadolujet to start Sarajevo flights

Anadolujet will start three weekly flights between Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport and Sarajevo with the beginning of summer timetable 2021 (first week of April). Flights will operate on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays by Boeing 737-800 aircraft offering 189 seats. Anadolujet is fully owned by Turkish Airlines and all Anadolujet flights carry Turkish Airlines flight numbers. Turkish Airlines operated flights from Istanbul-Sabiha airport to Sarajevo back in 2014. Anadolujet will directly compete with Pegasus Airlines operating up to nine weekly flights between Istanbul’s Asian side airport and Sarajevo. During the summer season Sarajevo and Istanbul will be connected with record 33 weekly flights (Turkish Airlines 21, Pegasus Airlines 9 and Anadolujet 3).

✈Big switch to Istanbul New Airport begins tomorrow

In a massive logistics operation that will start tomorrow, Turkey is going to say goodbye to Atatürk Airport, which has long been home to Turkey's rise in global aviation and move to the new Istanbul Airport. The long-awaited process of shifting from the longtime home of Turkish civil aviation, Atatürk Airport, to the new Istanbul Airport will kick off at 3 a.m. tomorrow. The move will last for 45 hours and be completed just before midnight on Saturday if all goes according to plan. Both the outgoing Atatürk Airport and the incoming Istanbul Airport will be closed to all passenger flights for a period of 12 hours, between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. that day.

Atatürk International Airport, which was commissioned in 1953, will no longer serve commercial flights as of Saturday. The airport, which handled 68 million people last year, will transition to other uses, such as training activities, aviation fairs and civil use.

The last plane to carry passengers from Atatürk Airport will fly to Singapore on Saturday at 2 a.m. [April 5, 2300GMT]. Flights at Istanbul Airport will increase gradually as of Saturday at 2 p.m. The first flight after the big move will be to Ankara's Esenboğa Airport.

Due to big move Turkish Airlines flights to Sarajevo will see temporarily adjustments. In transition period flights will operate once a day instead of three daily (from April 5 to April 11). On April 11 all flights go back to normal and will operate as scheduled three times per day.

✈Atlas Global suspends Istanbul-Sarajevo flights during winter

Atlas Global began flying from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Sarajevo in June with four weekly flights. Flights were planned to run throughout the year and increase to daily in summer of 2018, but due to low sales and strong competitions from well-established Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines, Atlas Global flights have been taken out of winter schedule and will restart on 25. March 2018, as part of summer schedule. Sarajevo-Istanbul route is the most popular for Sarajevo International Airport with total of 281.482 passengers traveled between two cities in 2016 (183.915 passengers traveled with Turkish Airlines and 97.567 with Pegasus Airlines). During winter season, Turkish Airlines is flying from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Sarajevo maintaining 11 weekly flights, while Pegasus Airlines is flying from Sabiha Gokcen Airport with six weekly services.

✈ Tuzla Airport winter timetable 2016-2017

Upcoming winter timetable starting 30th of October, Tuzla International Airport will start with two new destinations. From October 30. Wizz air will connect Tuzla with London-Luton in the United Kingdom, with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Sundays. Day after on October 31. Wizz Air will connect Tuzla and Billund in Denmark with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. New, third destinations Berlin-Schoenefeld, Wizz air will introduce on December 17. with two weekly rotations on Tuesdays and Saturdays. One more weekly flight will be added to Dortmund comparing to the last year winter schedule. Only destination seeing cuts in this winter schedule is Stockholm Skavsta Airport. Wizz air has converted this route to seasonal. This winter season a total of 10 destinations in six European countries will be served with 22 weekly flights from Tuzla International Airport. Cargo flights to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines will continue in winter months as well.

Flight reductions

In upcoming winter timetable starting on the 30^th of October, Sarajevo International Airport will see reduction of flights on the most popular routes from the city; Sarajevo-Istanbul and Sarajevo-Vienna. Turkish Airlines will reduce its twice daily service between Istanbul Ataturk Airport and Sarajevo to 10 weekly flights. Due to weather conditions in winter months and well known Sarajevo fog and very low visibility, Turkish Airlines has moved its morning arrival flight from 08:00 am to 11:00 am, which will allow airline to avoid early morning Sarajevo fog, causing almost daily flight delays and diversions to other airports in the region. Austrian Airlines will reduce its flights from 13 weekly from last year to 12 weekly this year. During winter, Sarajevo will lose direct connection to Zurich as well, since Swiss Air has decided to convert its three weekly flights from year round to summer seasonal. Air Arabia, also converted, its earlier announced year round, twice weekly service, from Sharjah in United Arab Emirates to Sarajevo to summer seasonal. 

More flights to Dubai, Lubljana and Istanbul (SAW)

Three airlines flying to Sarajevo will increase number of weekly flights, comparing to last winter schedule; 

Flydubai will increase its service from Dubai from 2 to 4 weekly, Adria Airways will increase its service from Ljubljana from 4 to 6 weekly and Pegasus Airlines will increase its service from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Sarajevo from 4 weekly to 6. 

Very limited connectivity 

Sarajevo Airport has very limited number of connections to major hubs in Europe: Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Brussels...etc, and with Swiss Air dropping Sarajevo during winter months, Sarajevo is losing yet another important connection to Europe, putting Sarajevo on the list of the worst connected capital cities in Europe, when comes to air transport. Major problem for the airport is that it does not have "home" air carrier and is lacking presence of low cost carriers, due to high airport taxes and expensive landing and handling fees, making the airport unattractive and unpopular with the airlines. The airport administration is lacking in the departments of route development, promotion, marketing and in incentives to bring air carriers to open new routes and base aircraft at the airport. Only 11 destinations will be served from Sarajevo in upcoming winter (9 in Europe and 2 in Asia)!  

New in 2017!?

Possibility of Croatia Airlines to open base at Sarajevo Airport in 2017 has been surfaced, but no official confirmation did come from the airline. Only one new air carrier with one new destination has been confirmed for the next year; Qatar Airways with three weekly flights from Doha (Hamad International Airport), Qatar to Sarajevo.
